Health Solutions Chiropractic is pleased to offer patients Calmare® therapy in South Ogden, Utah. Calmare® is a unique FDA-approved device used to treat chronic neuropathic pain. Nerve pain can manifest itself as burning, prickling, itching or even numbness, and can be difficult to treat with neuroleptic medication or other therapies. But with a biophysical rather than a biochemical approach, Calmare has been clinically proven to diminish the recurrence of chronic nerve pain without the side effects associated with medication.
How Does Calmare Work?
Calmare® therapy is becoming the go-to treatment options for patients who suffer from neuropathic pain. The unique Calmare device uses a multiprocessor that simultaneously treats pain areas with surface electrodes applied to the skin. These electrodes send a ‘no-pain’ message to the nerve, which becomes the dominant signal received by the brain. Thus the pain signal is overridden and relief is provided for the patient. Instead of blocking pain signals as medications or TENS devices attempt, they are effectively “scrambled.” In fact, a common name for this treatment is “scrambler therapy.”
Calmare® is highly effective for patients with chronic high-intensity neuropathic pain or drug-resistant cancer pain. It can also be used to alleviate lower back pain, neck pain, shingles pain, sciatica, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, phantom limb syndrome and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). In clinical trials, the Calmare device has been shown to significantly reduce pain in more than 80 percent of patients. The primary factor in efficacy is the responsiveness of an individual patient’s nervous system. In eligible patients, results will be apparent after the first treatment, and pain relief can last from 90 to 180 days at a time. Dr. Wes Wooden and associates typically recommend a treatment cycle of 10 appointments over a two-week period. Each treatment takes between 45 and 60 minutes, and the more treatments a patient receives, the longer their pain releif lasts between sessions.
