What Is Calmare?

Calmare Therapy, also known as Scrambler Therapy, is a non-narcotic, non-invasive procedure for the treatment of chronic pain. The device, with a biophysical rather than a biochemical approach, uses a multiprocessor able to simultaneously treat pain areas by applying surface electrodes to the skin. The device creates and sends a no-pain signal, which becomes the dominant signal received by the brain, thus overriding the pain signal and providing relief for the patient. Calmare is for patients with chronic high-intensity neuropathic pain and cancer pain resistant to morphine and other harmful narcotic painkillers.

Who Is It For?

Calmare is designed to treat all forms of neuropathy (nerve pain). Nerve pain is persistent and is sometimes described as dull, sharp, shock-like, numbness, burning or tingling in the hands or feet. Calmare also successfully treats Failed Back Surgery, Shingles, Phantom Limb Syndrome, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), as well as nerve pain associated with chemotherapy.

How Does It Work?

Electrode patches are precisely placed on the appropriate skin area on one or more dermatomes. A dermatome is an area of skin served by the fibers of a single spinal nerve root. The therapy scrambles the pain messages a 'no-pain' message is transmitted between the pain site and the brain. The perception of pain is cancelled when the ‘no-pain message’ replaces that of pain. Regardless of pain intensity, a patient's pain can be completely removed for immediate relief.

Some patients report pain relief as early as the first therapy session. However, many patients experience less pain after several scrambler treatments. As the number of treatments increase, the duration of pain relief may be sustained for a longer period of time. Patients who have experienced chronic pain for a shorter amount of time will generally experience faster results.

Typically, treatment consists of a series of 10 daily treatments that last 45- to 60-minutes. Some patients may benefit by more than 10 treatments and/or may periodically return for booster treatments.

Clinical studies have shown that this treatment successfully reduces pain in more than 80 percent of patients treated with Calmare Therapy.
